A Note From The Editors

From Natalie:
Well, that’s a wrap! I honestly don’t have much to say other than I’m going to miss Skylar A LOT. She was my bandmate, my co-editor, and above all, one of the closest friends I’ve ever had. I’ve been told time and time again that “most high school friendships won’t last.” But deep down inside, I know that this will be the exception. A 3-hour time difference and a 6-hour plane ride may be separating us next year (Congrats on RPI by the way!!!) but I sincerely hope that our friendship remains strong. We’ve been through this wild ride together, and I know she’s going to do amazing things in the future.
But at the same time, I’m ecstatic to work with our new EIC-elects, Dhruthi and Nikitha! These two have stayed with us, even when Skylar and I had no idea what we were doing. Not to mention that they’re just awesome, kind, and genuine people. I have faith in them to carry on the publication after both Skylar and I have graduated (aaa I’m going to be a senior) and can’t wait to work with them next year!
Well that was longer than I intended… but anyways I’m going to pass this on to Skylar now.
From Skylar:
Hey Longhorns,
This is Skylar, one of the Current Editors-in-Chiefs of the Eleight. I wanted to say thank you to all of our club members this year as well as Ms. Rossi. I am so glad to have gotten to meet you in person this year. Helping plan the events and editions for the Eleight were a highlight of my senior year. I hope that you all can return next year, and maybe even bring someone new to the club so we can keep the newspaper going, be it online or maybe even going back into paper copies periodically.
I am proud of the work we have accomplished this year and look forward to seeing the future editions as they are posted on our website.
Many thanks,
Skylar Long

The Summer Slide Phenomenon: The Reason We Don’t Remember Penguins In Elementary School
Maitreyi Bharath
In elementary school, I vividly remember doing an extensive unit on the penguins of the world. There was a Macaroni penguin, an Emperor penguin, and even a Fairy penguin. There were a bunch more, but I can’t recall them.
There’s the problem. When summer break ended, and I came back to school, that was all I could remember. How could 2 months have affected my memory of such a huge unit this badly?
Meet the Summer Slide Phenomenon. Woo.
