Have you ever watched or heard of the anime series Attack on Titan? If you haven’t you are missing out on a tremendously great success of story and show. I personally find this anime (from WIT and Mappa) to be a huge staple of anime and shows in general, and I believe that, along with its latest release of season four, one of the biggest and most anticipated anime releases ever, it is one of the greatest achievements in the show and film industry. This is simply because it is awfully realistic.
For those that don’t know, Attack on Titan is a story about humans brought to the brink of extinction by humanoid giants known as “Titans” who eat humans. The humans hid themselves within three walls: Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sina. There is a caste system within the walls; the poorer folk live closer to the outside where the titans roam, while the wealthy reside in the inner walls. The main character, Eren Yeager, vows to rid these monsters from the face of the earth after his mother passes away in the hands of a titan. During his journey through peril after joining the Scout Regiment, an exploration/scout-based military regiment, Eren discovers a new strength: he can become a Titan at will. It turned out that mindless titans consumed humans at random in hopes of inheriting this power to shift between human and titan. It also turns out that many actually had this power and were using it for a bigger conflict to usurp power over the nations featured in the show.
The plot was mainly focused around humans fighting their environment: the Titans. This plot realistically transformed into a human-against-human conflict after mankind started harnessing their “environment”, the titans. This is incredibly reminiscent of our world, as man’s unworthiest creation: armed conflict is sparked by feuds and the innovation of technology through nature.
One might not want to get too attached to lovable characters as you never know when the directors may decide to remove your favorite characters. There are no cheesy romances and seldom are there very lighthearted moments. This anime can be available on many anime streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll and Funimation.
If you can handle an intricately woven story that portrays the gruesome realities of war, I highly recommend this anime to watch and reflect upon.
